“National High Marks Earned For NY & NJ Minority Business Enterprise Centers”
Out of a network of thirty nine Minority Business Enterprise Centers (MBECs) across the nation, the NY & NJ MBECs were in the running in June at the 2006 National Conference in New Orleans hosted by the US Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). Winning the top national award for two consecutive years, New Jersey Statewide took home the Outstanding High Performance Award; followed by New York with high marks.
This national award is based on the overall MBDA performance rating of each center which includes such goals as securing capital, creating new jobs and finding procurement opportunities and contracts for minority-owned businesses. Overall ranking of 100% performance goal for 2005 and 2006 were achieved to garner this prestigious award.
The vice executive director, Ms. Lorraine Kelsey along with the center's business specialist, Mr. Ron Uba of the US Department of Commerce, strives to build performance excellence by providing top quality service and client care to foster education, tools and opportunities for minority-owned businesses to reach the next level. Mr. Ron Uba, who oversees both centers performance goals, was recently honored by the NY & NJ Minority Business Development Council as a Public Advocate for his work in helping to advance minority-owned businesses. Together the team at NY & NJ MBEC stands strong in delivering advisory services that go above and beyond the typical small business centers.
